YOUR PRIVACY IS OUR CONCERN
When you applied to The Peninsula Insurance Companies for any type of insurance, you disclosed information about yourself to us. The collection, use and disclosure of such information is regulated by law. The Peninsula Insurance Companies invites you to conduct business with us knowing that we protect your personal information.
The Peninsula Insurance Companies restrict access to personal information about you to those employees who need to know that information to provide products or services to you. We also maintain physical, electronic and procedural safeguards that comply with state and federal regulations to protect your personal information.
PERSONAL INFORMATION COLLECTED FROM OR ABOUT YOU
We collect information from you, or from third parties about you, as part of the insurance application and servicing process, for example:
- Information we receive from you on applications and other forms such as your name, address, phone number, household and driver information;
- Information about your transactions with us and our service providers such as accident information or medical information related to claims;
- Information we receive from consumer reporting agencies, Motor Vehicle Departments, and inspection services;
- We obtain most of our information directly from you. The application you completed, as well as any additional information you provide, generally gives us most of the information we need to know;
- For auto insurance, we may need information from your motor vehicle records. For property coverages, we may send someone to inspect your property and verify information about its value and condition. A photo of any property to be insured might be taken. We may review insurance claims information and other loss information reports, and we may also obtain medical or financial information to adjust some claims;
- We do not collect or obtain any information using an Internet cookie, an information collecting device from a web server; and
- We may obtain additional information we need from third parties, such as other insurance companies, government agencies, courts and other public records.
We use the information we collect to issue and administer insurance policies, process insurance benefits and claims, and provide services we think may be of interest to you. We also use the information as otherwise required or permitted by Federal or State law.
SHARING INFORMATION GATHERED
We may share information about you in the normal business of conducting insurance operations, such as providing you with an insurance quote, processing, servicing, and administering your insurance policy and your claims. We are permitted by law to share information about you when you become a Peninsula customer or claimant, with, for example:
- A third party that performs services for us, such as claims investigations, appraisals, or the detection of fraud or misrepresentations;
- Insurance regulatory authorities and reporting agencies;
- Your State Motor Vehicle Department to obtain a report of any accidents or convictions;
- Law enforcement agencies or other governmental authorities to report suspected illegal activities;
- Persons or organizations conducting insurance actuarial or research studies, subject to appropriate confidentiality agreements;
- Your agent or broker;
- Businesses that help us with data processing and debt collection;
- Other insurance companies, agents or consumer reporting agencies as reasonably necessary in connection with any application, policy or claim involving you;
- Any affiliated companies;
- Insurance support organizations which are established to collect information for the purpose of detecting and preventing insurance claims of fraudulent claims;
- Authorized persons as ordered by subpoena, warrant or other court order or as required by law;
- Lienholders, mortgagees, lessors or other persons shown on our records as having a legal or beneficial interest in your policy; and
- As otherwise permitted or required by law.
Where permitted by law, we may also disclose the nonpublic personal information described above to non-affiliated third parties in order to provide you with information about products or services that may be of interest to you.
We do not sell any customer information to mailing list companies or telemarketing companies.
PROTECTING INFORMATION GATHERED
We restrict access to nonpublic personal information about you to those employees and agents who need to know that information to provide products or services to you and to conduct our internal operations. This information is kept internal to Peninsula except when required or permitted by law and is not available to the general public. We maintain physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards that comply with applicable regulations to guard your nonpublic personal information. The Peninsula Insurance Companies retains the information collected for as long as required by law or regulation.
NOTICE & EXPLANATION OF OPT-OUT OPTION
We may share nonpublic personal information about you with non-affiliated third parties. If you prefer that we not disclose nonpublic personal information about you to non-affiliated third parties (other than disclosures permitted or required by law), you may direct us not to make those disclosures.
